Grade 5 Titanium Sheet (Ti-6Al-4V) is one of the most commonly used titanium alloys, known for its high strength, lightweight, and excellent corrosion resistance. It is a titanium alloy that contains 90% titanium, 6% aluminum, and 4% vanadium. Due to its enhanced properties, Grade 5 titanium is widely used in applications that require both strength and lightweight characteristics, especially in industries like aerospace, military, and medical.
Key Characteristics of Grade 5 Titanium Sheet (Ti-6Al-4V):-
Composition:
- Titanium (90%)
- Aluminum (6%) – Adds strength and reduces weight.
- Vanadium (4%) – Increases strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance.
- This alloy offers a superior combination of strength-to-weight ratio, making it an ideal choice for high-performance applications.
-
Strength:
- Grade 5 titanium is much stronger than commercially pure titanium grades (such as Grade 2). It has a tensile strength of approximately 900 MPa (130,000 psi) and yield strength of around 830 MPa (120,000 psi), making it much more suitable for load-bearing applications compared to pure titanium.
-
Corrosion Resistance:
- Grade 5 titanium retains excellent resistance to corrosion in most environments, including seawater, acids, and alkalis. It also resists oxidation and is highly durable in harsh environments, making it ideal for marine, aerospace, and chemical applications.
-
Weight:
- Although it is stronger than pure titanium, Grade 5 titanium is still lightweight, which is one of its main advantages. Its low density (about 4.43 g/cm³) makes it suitable for applications where weight savings are critical, like in aerospace and automotive industries.
-
Formability:
- While Grade 5 titanium is stronger than commercially pure titanium, it is more challenging to work with due to its higher strength. However, it can still be formed and welded using appropriate techniques, though care must be taken to avoid distortion due to its high strength.

Copper-Nickel Sheets (Cu-Ni sheets) are metal alloys composed primarily of copper and nickel, along with small amounts of other elements such as iron and manganese, which enhance specific properties like corrosion resistance and strength. Copper-nickel alloys are widely used in industries that require materials with excellent resistance to corrosion, especially in marine environments.
Key Characteristics of Copper-Nickel Sheets:-
Composition:
- Copper-nickel alloys typically contain around 70% copper and 30% nickel, although variations like 90/10 (90% copper and 10% nickel) and 80/20 compositions are also common. The alloy may also contain small amounts of iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) to improve its properties.
- Copper-Nickel 90/10 is the most commonly used alloy in the marine and industrial sectors due to its optimal balance between copper and nickel.
-
Corrosion Resistance:
- Copper-nickel sheets have outstanding resistance to corrosion, especially in seawater environments. The combination of copper and nickel forms a protective oxide layer that prevents further degradation when exposed to saltwater and other aggressive chemicals.
- This makes copper-nickel alloys ideal for marine applications, where the material is constantly exposed to water, salts, and various chemicals.
